A

Airdrop

A distribution of a cryptocurrency token or coin, usually for free, to numerous wallet addresses.

Altcoin

Any cryptocurrency other than Bitcoin.

B

Blockchain

A decentralized ledger that records all transactions across a network of computers.

C

Cold Storage

Storing cryptocurrency offline, such as on a hardware wallet or paper wallet, to protect it from hacks.

D

DeFi

Short for Decentralized Finance. Financial services built on public blockchains, primarily Ethereum.

F

FOMO

Fear Of Missing Out. The feeling that you are missing out on a profitable trading opportunity.

G

Gas

A fee paid to process transactions on the Ethereum network.

H

HODL

A misspelling of 'hold' that refers to a buy-and-hold strategy in the context of bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.

I

ICO

Initial Coin Offering. A fundraising method in which a new project sells its underlying crypto tokens.

K

Keys

Public and private keys are used to send and receive cryptocurrency. Never share your private key.

M

Mining

The process by which new cryptocurrency coins are entered into circulation and new transactions are confirmed.

N

NFT

Non-Fungible Token. A unique digital asset that represents ownership of real-world items like art, music, in-game items and videos.

S

Satoshi

The smallest unit of Bitcoin. 1 Bitcoin = 100,000,000 Satoshis.

W

Wallet

A software program or physical device that stores public and private keys and interacts with various blockchain.

Whale

An individual or entity that holds a large amount of cryptocurrency.
